1- Make sure you definately leave your website and email addresses on the back of the artwork as well as on any other tags or
flyers you leave with it.
2- Have it very obvious and large somewhere that this is real art and not to dispose of it or vandelize it.
3- Encourage others to get involved by taking it and contacting the artist, by relocating it, giving it as a gift, creating their own, taking
photos when one is found and contact contact contact the addresses they find on the pieces.
4- Leave information about other self-representing artists and organizations, be it a few links or whatever. Support each other!
Remember: What goes around, comes around.
Other Examples:
Leave artwork that's on paper.... drawings, paintings, prints, text messages, poetry, stories, collage. Textile art, found object art,
anything that won't break. Don't forget original music and/or spoken word cassettes/cds.
Don't leave glass or things breakable as this could result in injury if broken on the site. You don't want to get sued :)
Have a look at billy's attached tag example, then click
your back button to get back to this page.
Examples Of Places To Leave Your Art:
Abandoned buildings, public restrooms, parks, parking lots, rest areas, anywhere either obvious or inconspicuous. Be bold or hide
the treasure. People WILL find it eventually. Just remember to place the art according to the weather too. If it's rainy, you don't want
to hang something in the open to get soaked and ruined (duh).
Examples Of How To Afix Your Art To A Location:
Don't fix your art to a location that will be difficult for someone to remove it. Don't nail it down but use staples or tape. Use something
that also won't damage the piece but will keep it in place, easy to remove later.
You can always borrow my personal choice...... which is to tie the artwork to a helium balloon and let it fly. This can create some
interesting locations :) Of course this can only be used with lightweight pieces.
No No's:
Please don't deface public property with your art. While some places may deserve it (coughing: goverment buildings) ,
this is counterproductive and not representive to self-representing artists' as a whole. It will only piss people off, turning them
against what we're trying to do. 'Nuff said.
